UYO is so excited to be able to tell everyone the plans for the 2021 Summer Course!
We are very happy to announce that our ‘blended’ course will centre on Symphony No.1 in E minor by Sibelius. We were due to perform this magnificent symphony in 2020 and we cannot let this piece go un-played for a second year!
The online part of the course will come first and will feature all of the favourite elements from the 2020 course – sectionals, 1-1 lessons, masterclasses, talks and of course our fabulous welfare team will keep everyone entertained in the evenings.
We are thrilled to report that we have engaged David Brophy to conduct the orchestra on the last day, Saturday 21st August, when the players can immerse themselves, in person*, in a day of wonderful repertoire under the baton of this experienced and versatile conductor. A former Principal Conductor of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, David now enjoys a close relationship with both RTÉ orchestras in addition to regular appearances as guest conductor with the Ulster Orchestra. David has conducted orchestras across the world and worked with internationally acclaimed artists from Lang Lang and Tasmin Little to U2 and Imelda May!
The final day will be recorded and edited, along with highlights from the online course, to showcase our achievements to family, friends and the wider public.
It’s going to be emotional!
*Meeting in person will be subject to the government guidelines that are in place at the time.
Huge gratitude to our Principal Funder Arts Council of Northern Ireland
